Sweden's National Day is on June 6th, and we celebrate this on the weekend closest to this date. Please click here to read more about the beginnings of Sweden's National Day.
Since 1983, Sweden has celebrated its National Day on June 6th. This is the date that Gustav Vasa was elected King in 1523, creating Sweden's independence and adopting a new constitution later in 1809.
This day is also Sweden's Flag Day, celebrating that Sweden acquired its own flag in 1905.
This is a must attend event! We are proud to celebrate Sweden and our Swedish Community here in Canada.
Our National Day event is held at the Scandinavian Community Centre in Burnaby, where we enjoy the following: - Swedish School childrens' year end celebration/ceremony - Educational scholarships are awarded - Lunch + Swedish treats - Entertainment (music, dancing, games)
