The Scandinavian Centre in Burnaby is home to several Scandinavian nations, including Sweden. We need the help of our community to raise funds to keep our Centre running!

Please join us to celebrate Valborg on Sunday April 27th at 6pm! As always, we will be celebrating at Ambleside Beach (beside dog park) in West Vancouver.
This is a celebration of the arrival of Spring! We will gather around a bonfire, sing songs and roast hot dogs. Please bring your own hot dogs and a sweater/jacket as it can get a bit cold on the beach. We will provide song sheets so that everyone can join the singing!

With two sold out performances, afternoon and evening, this years Lucia festivities was fantastic!
A big thank you to to all volunteers that helped out to make the event a success.
This years Lucia was Natalie Bristow.
The afternoon 1pm performance included the infamous fika, showcased the students of the Swedish School in Vancouver choir, and a visit from Santa. The evening 6pm performance also included the famous Swedish Christmas dinner.

Around 1700 visitors, 30 vendors and 40 volunteers helped making our Christmas fair a huge success!

With emphasis on Sweden
In this special delivery workshop we will study the connections between language, myth and landscape in Swedish folk songs, fairy tales and art. Exploring how Swedes' relationship to nature and seasonal changes deeply influences the culture and ways of thinking.
Together we will read, listen and look at different samples of works. We will discuss and analyze how these stories, melodies and themes live in Swedish culture today and Swedish diaspora all over the world.
The course will be taught in English and all course material will be provided

Adult classes (Swedish language) will start in September Our next big event will be the Swedish Christmas Fair in November. Lots of volunteers will be needed, so keep an eye out for our signup-genius emails in the fall. Enjoy summer and see you in the fall!
Viking Village, Cultural Displays, Shopping Kiosks, Dancing, Bonfire, Beer Garden, Music, Midsummer Pole, Traditional Scandinavian Foods, Kids’ activities. The fun and crazy wife-carrying contest always draws a lot of attention along with continuous entertainment all weekend.
